Pin the European Capital
Ten capitals, one map of Europe. Drop your pin on each city: land right on it for 100 points, and every kilometre off costs you.
About this quiz
You might know a capital's name instantly but still hesitate when asked to point to it on a blank map. Is it on the coast or inland? North or south of its neighbors' capitals? This quiz tests exactly that sense of location with ten European capitals.
Each question names a capital, and you drop a pin where you think it is on a map of Europe. Tap the map to place the pin, tap again to move it, and press Submit when you're happy. You can drag or pinch to pan and zoom, or use the plus and minus buttons, which helps for precise placement. After each answer, the real location appears with a line from your pin, the distance in kilometres and your points. A pin right on the city earns 100 points, and the score drops the further away you land.
The target coordinates are the city centres, rounded to four decimal places, and some questions come with a short fact about the city after you answer. You have five minutes for all ten. Rivers, coastlines and borders are your best landmarks: think about which body of water a city sits on, or how far it lies from the nearest border, before you tap. Zooming in on the right region before placing the pin can make the difference between a decent score and a perfect one.
