Privacy policy

This policy explains what TriviaMeld (triviameld.com) collects when you use it, why, and the choices you have. Questions or requests go to [email protected].

If you play without an account

Your browser gets a random id in a cookie, so your quiz attempts, saved progress and ratings can be kept together. We store what you answered, your score, how long you took, and any star ratings you give, linked to that random id. Nothing else about you, such as your IP address or browser, is stored with them. If you later sign up or log in, they move to your account.

If you create an account

  • Your email address, full name and display name. Your email is used to log in and to send account emails, and is never shown to other players.
  • Your password, stored only as a secure hash, never as the password itself.
  • Your profile picture: one of the site's cartoon avatars, or a photo you upload. An uploaded photo is only shown to you and your friends.
  • Your quiz attempts, progress and ratings, as above.

Friends and challenges

Friends can see your display name, profile picture and your results on quizzes you have both played. You can hide any attempt from your friends. If you invite someone by email, we store their address and send them one invitation email; the invite is linked to their account if they sign up. When you share a result as a challenge link, anyone with the link can see the quiz, your score and your display name.

Emails

We send account emails (such as confirming your email address) and friend invitations through Resend, an email delivery service. We do not send newsletters or sell email addresses.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand how the site is used and to fix problems: pages viewed, quizzes started and finished, buttons clicked and errors. For a sample of visits PostHog also records the session (what the page showed and where you clicked) so problems can be replayed. In these recordings everything typed into forms is masked, except answers typed into a quiz. If you are logged in, this is linked to your account id, email and display name. PostHog stores data in the United States.

Advertising

TriviaMeld shows ads served by Google AdSense, and uses the Google tag (gtag.js) to measure the results of its own Google Ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

Cookies and browser storage

  • session: keeps you logged in, for up to 30 days.
  • anon: the random id for players without an account, for up to 400 days.
  • PostHog cookies and local storage, for the analytics described above.
  • Google cookies, for ads and ad measurement as described above.
  • Your browser's local storage also remembers small preferences, such as km/h or mph on speed quizzes.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, but you will be logged out and progress you saved without an account will be lost.

Where your data is kept

The site runs on Render and its database is hosted by Supabase. These providers, Resend, PostHog and Google process data on TriviaMeld's behalf or under their own policies, and may store it outside your country, including in the United States. TriviaMeld does not sell your personal information.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept while your account exists. Attempts made without an account are kept so your history stays available on that browser. Analytics data is kept by PostHog according to its retention settings.

Your choices

You can change your name, display name, email address, password and profile picture on your profile page. To get a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account and everything linked to it, email [email protected] from the address on your account.

Children

TriviaMeld is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email [email protected] and it will be deleted.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
