Countries That Start with A
Eleven countries kick off the alphabet, and some of them are much easier to remember than others. How many countries starting with A can you name?
About this quiz
Eleven countries start with the letter A, which makes it one of the mid-sized letters on the world map. The list mixes large, well-known nations with smaller ones that rarely make the news, and a single Caribbean entry that has a two-part name.
The quiz uses the same list of 195 countries as the site's Countries of the World quiz: the 193 member states of the United Nations plus the two UN observer states. Places with disputed or limited recognition, such as Taiwan and Kosovo, are not counted, and neither are dependent territories. Each country is filed under the first letter of its common English name, ignoring a leading "The" and accents. A few countries that are widely known by two names starting with different letters count under both letters, and common alternative and older names are accepted.
Type the countries into one shared box in any order, and each correct answer fills its slot. You have 5 minutes. If you get stuck, try sweeping the map one continent at a time, and don't forget the small island nations, which are where most points get lost.
